Chasing a mystery

Educational classes designed for the Historical Museum in the Sułkowski Castle in Bielsko-Biała. The inspiration was the mystery surrounding the origins of the people of Wilamowice, a small village near Bielsko-Biała. The extraordinary Wilamowice culture — their separate language, rich history and unique folk costume — has always fascinated me.

So I took on the strikingly original, colourful embroidery that decorates the hand-made bonnets of the traditional Wilamowice costume. The session began by showing participants every kind of hand embroidery found in the costume. Everyone could then try their hand at this vanishing yet utterly absorbing technique.
